Visitors to the Vanden Brul Pavilion at the Memorial Art Gallery of the University of Rochester will experience some notable changes during their next visit. As part of a major renovation funded by the University of Rochester, Bergmann provided architectural and engineering design services for the replacement of the three interior skylights, leading to a stunning transformation.

The original skylights, each sized at 20’x40’ +/-, were replaced by a single 62’x40’ +/-, 4/12 pitch, hipped skylight, which opened up the space and transformed both the day and evening experiences. The single skylight solution was identified through a Schematic Report/Skylight Replacement Study previously prepared by Bergmann.

The transformation contributes to a grander experience for visitors entering through the Pavilion, adding more natural light, and providing new ceilings, new light fixtures—including some with color changing capability—and refreshed foliage.

The newly renovated Pavilion opened for visitors in Fall of 2020.
