National architecture, engineering and planning firm Bergmann announced the formation of a Diversity and Inclusion Committee. The committee will report directly to the Board of Directors and will play an integral role in shaping strategy and direction related to diversity and inclusion across the firm.

Bergmann began formation of the committee in Summer 2020 with applications accepted from employees across the firm’s 15 office locations and numerous practice areas. The 12-person committee comprises individuals from underrepresented groups across Bergmann, plus Scott Lockwood, CFO and CAO, as a Board Representative, and Jennie Muscarella, in her role as Chief HR and Legal Officer.

Bergmann’s Inaugural Diversity & Inclusion Committee Members:

  • Mufuta Tshimanga, PE (Co-Chair), Discipline Leader
  • Micheline Diegan, AIA, NCARB (Co-Chair), Sr. Project Manager
  • Tamara Burk, Licensing and Planning Coordinator
  • Ariadna Cheremeteff, Environmental Discipline Leader
  • Ian Graham, Design Engineer
  • Karly Grindstaff, Designer
  • Ricky Harrison, Electrical Discipline Manager
  • Ted Liddell, Project Landscape Architect
  • Modeste Muhire, Design Engineer
  • Angela Robinson, Regional Electrical Discipline Manager

President and CEO, Pietro (Pete) Giovenco emphasized the importance of this committee stating: “The work that we do as designers and engineers has a direct impact on our communities and on society as a whole. It is imperative that we make issues such as diversity, inclusion and equity a part of the conversation at Bergmann for both our people and for the communities that we serve. The better we are at understanding and empathizing with those around us, the better we will be able to serve and provide meaningful solutions.”

As its first order of business, the committee named Micheline Diegan, Sr. Project Manager, and Mufuta Tshimanga, Discipline Leader, to the role of Co-Chairs where they will help guide the direction and efforts of the committee, ensuring alignment with the strategic direction of the firm.

“Both Micheline and Mufuta exemplify Bergmann’s Values and share an incredible passion for ensuring that everyone at Bergmann is heard and their contributions valued,” stated Jennie Muscarella. “Their personal and professional contributions in their daily work have been celebrated by their close teams and clients, and I know their leadership on the Diversity and Inclusion Committee will make an incredible impact.”

The committee meets regularly and is starting to shape focus areas for 2021, looking at areas such as policy review and development, training, recruitment, and community efforts, with the goal of making a meaningful and lasting impact.
