The City of Rochester was awarded Bridge of the Year Award for the Genesee River Trail Pedestrian Bridge, for which Bergmann provided engineering and design services. The award recognizes outstanding new and replacement bridge projects in the $2 million to $10 million cost range, and in the under $2 million cost range, completed the previous year. In 2020, six bridges were nominated for the Under $2 Million category.
The project completes a missing segment in the City’s popular Genesee Riverway Trail system by extending the trail through a compact, privately-owned urban parcel, adjacent to both a luxury apartment building and the Genesee River. The new multi-use trail fulfills many goals for the City, including: increasing public waterfront access, serving as a catalyst for the private development and providing a backdrop for public education of the rich transportation heritage of the project site.
