The City of Albany, in partnership with the Albany Parking Authority and the Lark Street Business Improvement District, has hired national architecture, engineering and planning firm Bergmann as the lead consultant for the Lark Street Improvement Study. Data collection and public input meetings for the project began last month.
The study, which is supported by a $20,000 state grant recommended by the Capital Region Economic Development Council, aims to stimulate local economic growth and attract and retain residents, businesses, and visitors by developing design recommendations to enhance and beautify the Lark streetscape, support multiple modes of transportation, improve parking access and strengthen connections to Washington Park and downtown Albany, among other key initiatives.
“The study and resulting design recommendations are intended to strengthen the Lark Street neighborhood and create a strong sense of place,” said Kimberly Baptiste, municipal practice leader, Bergmann. “We look forward to working with the City of Albany, project partners, and community stakeholders to improve the Lark Street corridor.”
The final plan, outlining strategic recommendations for Lark Street, from Madison Avenue to Washington Avenue, will be delivered in December 2019. Community members are invited to attend public events throughout the summer and fall to share their visions for the project.
