National architecture, engineering and planning firm Bergmann has received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification for its corporate headquarters, located in the Tower280 Building in midtown Rochester. LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
To achieve LEED certification, projects are evaluated against a number of impact categories including energy, water, responsible use of natural resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation. Bergmann earned LEED Certified recognition based on the LEED 2009 Commercial Interiors (CI) rating system.
Bergmann’s Interior Design team designed the workspace in partnership with Bergmann architects and engineers. Through this collaboration the team was able to deliver a number of environmentally friendly, energy-saving practices throughout the space.
The 60,000-square-foot, second floor office includes daylight responsive lighting; transparent glass wall systems; energy-efficient, heat-pump-based HVAC technology; flooring comprised of reclaimed hard wood; extensive use of regionally sourced and recycled materials; and exclusive use of low volatile organic compounds throughout the workspace. In addition, Bergmann places a strong emphasis on recycling throughout the office.
“We utilized the expertise of our designers and engineers to create a workspace that reflects our commitment to sustainability, as well as supports comfort and wellness, while encouraging collaboration among our staff,” said Pete Giovenco, Bergmann president and CEO. “We’re thrilled to achieve the prestigious LEED certification in recognition of our efforts to create a more sustainable world by design.”
The Bergmann team has more than 140 LEED-certified projects, including the first operating Net-Zero-Energy bank in the United States.
