The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) recently announced the publication of the organization's latest standards, IEEE Std 3001.4-2020 - IEEE Recommended Practice for Estimating the Costs of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems. The standards were co-authored by Nik Bodhankar, PE, LC, LEED AP, a Principal in Bergmann’s Albany office and a lead for Bergmann’s new Science, Technology and Industry Practice.
As a senior member of the IEEE and in his role as Vice Chair of the Power Systems Design Working Group, Bodhankar led a notable group of professionals in development of these important standards, including dozens of working group members and the balloting and review committees.
“These standards are necessary to the industry as it provides recommended techniques to determine costs estimates for electrical systems from inception to completion that are reliable and accurate,” says Bodhankar. “The global relevance of the standard provides important guidance for any engineer responsible for the electrical design of commercial and industrial facilities for adjusting the estimates to local conditions. It is the most comprehensive standard with current references and examples that provides knowledge of costs that can be very helpful in early decision making and perhaps assist in providing multiple design solutions including capital cost budgeting.”
