National architecture, engineering and planning firm Bergmann has added Nikhil Bodhankar, PE, LC, LEED AP, as a principal in its Albany, New York office. Bodhankar possesses more than a decade’s experience in engineering research, sustainable infrastructure design, and renewable energy. At Bergmann, he will lead engineering designs for public and private clients, participate in business development and manage client relations, strengthening the firm’s presence in the Capital District and its commitment to providing innovative solutions to clients.

As a licensed engineer in six states – Connecticut, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York and Vermont – Bodhankar has worked closely with clients including the General Electric Global Research Center, where he contributed to the complex areas of safety electrical circuits, explosion-proof environment electrical design and the development of control logic for challenging global research experiments. His clients have also included Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, GlobalFoundries, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, SUNY Poly, United States Coast Guard, and the New York State Office of General Services.

“Nik’s extensive experience complements our growing full-service building design practice in the Capital District,” said Andrew Raus, Bergmann vice president, Northeast Buildings. “His credentials will serve the team well as Nik works to support business development and lead technical electrical engineering projects.”

In addition to his vast and varied project experience, Bodhankar is president of the Capital District Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers and served as its director and vice president from 2009 to 2017. He is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the Industry Applications Society (IAS), and Sigma XI, The Scientific Research Society. Bodhankar gained national recognition in 2012 and 2018 from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) and National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), respectively, as the National Young Engineer of the Year, recognizing his outstanding contributions to the Engineering Profession and the community during the early years of his career.

Bodhankar is currently chair of an international standards committee and serves as a panelist and committee member of the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) PE exam for Electrical Engineering – Power. He is IEEE-USA representative to NCEES – Participating Organizations Liaison Council (POLC), a group of 26 national organizations committed to the advancement of professional ethics and standards of engineering and surveying licensure.
