Pietro “Pete” Giovenco, PE, president and CEO of Bergmann, has been selected as a finalist for the 2018 Business Person of the Year (BPOY) award by the Small Business Council (SBC) of Rochester in the category of companies with 50 employees or more. The winner of the award will be announced at the SBC annual awards luncheon on October 25th. The event is considered one of the Rochester region’s largest business networking events, with hundreds of local professionals in attendance each year.

Giovenco is one of five finalists announced on Friday, July 27th. The honorees were nominated by business peers. Finalists were selected by a committee from the SBC. The BPOY award is designed to recognize exceptional business leaders who have demonstrated significant contributions to their companies in the areas of growth, leadership, achievement and community service.

Since starting with Bergmann in 1989, Giovenco, a professional engineer, has worked as a civil engineer and project manager. Today, he is only the third person in the firm’s history to hold the title of CEO. As president and CEO, he leads the firm’s strategic direction, as well as ensuring that the organization’s mission, vision and values are reflected in every solution that the Bergmann team develops.

Giovenco is also active in the greater Rochester community. He is a member of the board of directors for the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation and St. John’s Home. He also chairs the Dean’s Advisory Council at the Saunders Business School at RIT, and more recently became a board member for the Monroe Community College Foundation.
