Cheryl Walker joined Gantt Huberman Architects in 2000 and is a principal in the firm. She has extensive experience in managing complex projects and leading sustainable initiatives. Cheryl’s passion lies in applying sustainable strategies to all projects in order to create places that enrich people’s lives. Her leadership in sustainable design has led to breakthrough projects achieving LEED certification for public clients in the Charlotte region. A Fellow in the American Institute of Architecture, Cheryl received the inaugural Gail Lindsey Sustainability Award from AIA North Carolina in 2009. In 2011, Cheryl received the Girl Scouts of America Hornet’s Nest Council Women of Distinction Environmental Leadership Award. She has taught, lectured, and published articles and research on sustainable architecture regionally and nationally, including the following books: City by Design, The Ecology of Architecture, WasteSpec, and Green Architecture. She has served on the AIA North Carolina Board of Directors, chaired NCARB’s national Sustainable Architecture and Public Policy Task Forces and AIA and NCARB Education Committees. She currently serves as President of the North Carolina Board of Architecture, and on the Board of the McColl Center for Art + Innovation.
