First Ward Revitalization Strategy, Master Plan, Binghamton NY

Prepared a neighborhood revitalization strategy for the First Ward in Binghamton, New York.

Bergmann worked with the City of Binghamton to prepare a NYS Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Pre-Nomination Study and Nomination Study for the First Ward Neighborhood located on the west side of downtown. The study identified opportunities for commercial and industrial growth as well as the stabilization of the residential base by capitalizing on existing successes and programs within the 369 acre study area. A key objective of the planning process was to engage and involve a very active local community through stakeholder meetings with the neighborhood assembly and through interactive activities focused within the neighborhood. The study area was near the State University of New York (SUNY) Binghamton.

The planning process identified justifiable study area boundaries, established local partnerships for moving proposed projects through implementation, presented an analysis of existing conditions, and identified recommendations for brownfield and neighborhood revitalization capability.
