This project converted an underutilized gymnasium into an interactive, hands-on elementary science center.

The science center has been highly successful evolving into an extended day program, resulting in a substantial improvement in the standard test scores for sixth grade science. Elements within the center included:

  • Raised-step class space used for preliminary lab instruction
  • Semi-formal class room (geodesic dome) for testing and teacher conducted demonstrations
  • Open floor (multipurpose usage) area
  • Display/exhibition space
  • Upper level horticulture area
  • Adjustable flow waterfall with an active pond featuring fish, frogs, turtles and aquatic plantlife.

This project received national recognition from both the American Institute of Architects and the American Association of School Administrators.
