Replacement of the Eastern Avenue bridge over I-196 in Grand Rapids, MI.

Bergmann completed plans for replacement of the Eastern Avenue Bridge over I-196 in Grand Rapids, MI. Originally scoped for freeway reconstruction of I-196, the Eastern Avenue bridge replacement was added late in the design process due to available stimulus funding (ARRA) and the desire to widen I-196 to six lanes. The new bridge was designed within a very aggressive schedule in order to meet the deadlines tied to the funding and to maintain the planned schedule for the I-196 work. Bergmann completed the design in only two months which included the final plans, estimate and specifications. The new bridge consists of a two-span spread box beam structure on wall type abutments and a cap & column pier.
