Firemen's Home Skilled Nursing Facility, Interior Library, Hudson NY

Design and feasibility study, focused on a sense of community, for the Firemen's Home skilled nursing facility.

The Firemen’s Home of the State of New York is a unique, privately funded, skilled nursing facility for New York’s volunteer firefighters. The 120 room facility replaces the original 1920’s structure providing comprehensive care to more than 90 members. The facility's aesthetics incorporate numerous Craftsman-styled elements including the use of natural finishes, fireplaces, covered porches and art tiles. The facility is organized around significant spaces broadening the member’s ingrained sense of community. The clustered “neighborhoods” with a central grand stair provides an open visual and physical connection between floors while anchoring significant common spaces, including a dining hall, general store, library, chapel, indoor pool, medical/dental facility and salon.
