Reclassification of a Hydropower Dam near Utica, NY

Bergmann supported Brookfield Renewable Energy’s efforts to revise the dam safety rating of Inghams Dam in accordance with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s (NYSDEC) regulations. The dam had been classified as a High (Class C) Hazard Dam. Bergmann analyzed the design inflow, reservoir storage and potential downstream impacts to allow Brookfield to petition the NSYSDEC to reclassify Inghams Dam as a Low (Class A) Hazard Dam.

Project Highlights

  • Reviewed project hydrology and record of storms
  • Created a hydraulic model of the river in the vicinity of the dam
  • Evaluated the impacts of flooding on downstream properties
  • Reviewed dam safety classification in accordance with NYSDEC guidelines
