Jackson Hole Classical Academy School

Bergmann provided design services for an addition to an existing facility, as well as planning and design services for a brand new campus.

The JHCA learning environment is designed to encourage the development of children to pursue “Truth, Goodness and Beauty”. With the building positioned in Jackson, Wyoming, the views to the surrounding mountain range allow for a constant reminder of their philosophy.

Existing Facility Addition

The new facility consists of a nine-classroom, 11,200 SF addition. Each classroom is geared toward traditional learning techniques. There is a half-court gymnasium that can be partitioned into two separate spaces for alternate functions. Left open, the gymnasium can support a group of 300 people for larger gatherings. The facility also contains a full-service kitchen to prepare hot lunches for the children and staff on a daily basis. This project also included partial renovation of the existing building to create a music room and a dual function art/science room.

The exterior design fits contextually within the overall Jackson, Wyoming flavor. The large timber frames and standing-seam roofs were designed to support heavy winter snow loads. Careful thought was given to the design to allow for snow build-up around the perimeter of the building without impacting the areas where the children and staff traverse.

New Campus Planning & Design

Bergmann partnered with Bouma to provide the programming, planning, design and engineering of a new campus for the Jackson Hole Classical Academy, which is rapidly out-growing their existing facility. The Bouma-Bergmann team worked closely with the Academy’s administration staff to program and design an integrated 240-student K-12 Campus. The multi-building facility includes Lower Elementary (grades K-3), Upper Elementary (grades 4-6), Upper School Math and Science, Upper School Language/Humanities and shared administration, library, dining hall, arts center and gymnasium.

Interim Campus

The Academy was required to relocate their facilities and, as an interim step in their process of developing a new campus, Bergmann worked with them on creating an interim campus layout located on the new property. The design, layout and installation of modular classrooms (which will be removed at a later date) and a field house (to remain) were developed by Bergmann. The field house provides room for the students for athletics and extracurricular activities, along with a full kitchen for serving lunch to the students. Bergmann and Bouma coordinated and designed the infrastructure of the interim campus to allow expansion and connection to the new main campus.
