Bergmann provided highway design services on segments 1 and 3 of this much-needed highway modernization project.

Bergmann served as sub-consultant for the design-build I-75 Modernization project in the State of Michigan, serving on segments 1 and 3 of the three-segment project. Built in the 1960s, I-75 is a critical commercial, commuter and tourism route that had yet to receive comprehensive corridor improvements since first constructed. The state embarked on the modernization project in 2016 to increase capacity and relieve congestion driven by the growth along the corridor.

Bergmann worked with AECOM on the design and build-out of segment 1, which extends from approximately Coolidge Road to Southern Boulevard, near the City of Auburn Hills. Segment 3 extends approximately six miles from M-102 / 8 Mile Road to 13 Mile Road in the cities of Hazel Park, Madison Heights, and Royal Oak. As part of Segment 3, Bergmann provided overall highway (non-tunnel) drainage, freeway, ramp, service drive and crossroad design from 11 Mile Road to 13 Mile Road.

Bergmann started work on this project in 2016 and is currently working on portions of segment 3. The overall impact of Bergmann’s work has resulted in decreased congestion, increased driver safety and improved scenery for local residents.

Project Highlights

  • Design Build: Bergmann implemented crossroad design, freeway design, overall highway design and rehabilitation of connecting structures to better serve the overall community.
  • Roadway: Service drive work, pot-hole reduction, retaining and noise wall and local roadwork to improve conditions for drivers.
  • Bridge & Ramp: Re-design of twelve vehicular bridges and several ramps.
  • Drainage Re-Design: Overall highway drainage re-routing and re-design which helped with less flooding of the Interchange and roads, lessening traffic issues and improving road conditions.
