A development plan focusing on smart growth strategies to ensure a sustainable future for Onondaga County, NY.
Focusing on sustainable land use and development patterns, the purpose of the Onondaga County Sustainable Development Plan was to direct county policy, as well as to inform local governments, stakeholders and residents. The plan acted as a platform to challenge assumptions of what good growth looks like and engage in a positive regional discussion.
A key component of this project was scenario modeling, which projects development patterns and associated impacts from different development scenarios (e.g., current trends, Smart Growth trends) into the future. By modeling several future development scenarios, this tool allowed planners and citizens to better understand the relationships between the different policy choices and the resulting impacts to communities.
