Design of modern connection hubs, with electric vehicle charging capacity.

To meet and better serve the region’s evolving economy and community needs, Reimagine RTS embarked on changes to the RTS fixed-route transit system. A central aspect of the plan involved a focus on network connections with the fixed-route system, by providing community mobility connection hubs throughout the service area at key network convergence points extending the service reach of RTS in a more cost-effective way.

Bergmann was selected to provide architectural, electrical and landscape design, plus permitting and construction administration for six of the proposed 10 connection hubs throughout the Greater Rochester area. Bergmann-designed sites included hubs at St. John Fisher College, Irondequoit Plaza, Marketplace Mall, Rochester Technology Park, Baytowne Plaza and Greece Ridge Mall.

Five of the six hubs featured electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Three of the sites, St. John Fisher College, Rochester Tech Park and Baytowne Plaza were designed with active stations, while Irondequoit Plaza and Greece Ridge Mall were designed and constructed to provide EV charging readiness at a future date.
