Conceptual Design for Shoprite anchor and adjacent retail tenants for Drexeline Town Center redevelopment

Bergmann was selected to provide conceptual design services for the new grocery anchor, Shoprite, and adjacent retail tenants for the Drexeline Town Center redevelopment plan. One of two significant commercial areas and gateway between Drexel Hill and Upper Darby, the new town center is being developed to better serve the needs of the community.

Bergmann was required to work within the tight site constraints of the redevelopment plan, while addressing programmatic requirements of the tenant’s space plan. The 72,000 sf building, positioned perpendicular to the main arterial roadway, was designed with a 2-story curtainwall and dramatic roofline to provide the required entry focal point to the store. Iconic branding and modern materials such as dry stacked stone, timber framing and fiber-cement siding specified for the building further establish the design precedent for all buildings within the new town center.

Project Highlights

  • Design of high-profile façade as a primary focal point on the site
  • Integration of iconic branding and modern materials established design precedent for all related buildings designed by Bergmann on the site
